Walking Tour Caretos de Podence & Boat Experience – UNESCO World Heritage

Visit and experience the tradition of Caretos de Podence, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and explore the landscape of Azibo, which is part of the Natura 2000 network.

The tour begins with a hiking trail in the “Geopark Terras de Cavaleiros” and the Azibo Protected Landscape. After the hiking trail we will visit the "Casa do Careto" of Podence.

The “Geopark Terras de Cavaleiros” is a well-defined geographic area, with an important geological heritage to which is added a great biodiversity heritage, a remarkable historical-cultural heritage, local products, the rich gastronomy and the well-received art of its people.

The Azibo Protected Landscape is partly located on the "Morais" Community Interest Place, of the Natura 2000 Network, where you can find a Portuguese Oak and Sweet Chestnut coexist with Olive Tree, Vineyard, Cork Oak, brushwood and marshlands, in a mosaic enriched by the presence of spontaneous orchids. The large mass of water allows the existence of several species of wild bird, fauna and is a nesting place to the Great Crested grebe, the symbol of this Protected Area.
