Historical Heritage
The foundation of Assares, as a town, is related to the Arab occupation due to its location in the Vale da Vilariça, with fertile land. Its very ancient settlement can be proven by the existing rock inscriptions at the site of “Cova da Moura”, next to the riverbed of Ribeira da Vilariça. The heritage includes the baroque Church of S. Miguel and the Chapel of Nossa Sra. do Rosário, from the 18th century, with an altar from the 17th century.
