Samões

Historical Heritage
The remote settlement of Samões is evidenced by the archaeological remains found in a place called “Barreiros”, between Samões and Candoso. They are circular structures with more than 20 meters, built in granitic loose stone.
Tradition says that during the war of restoration, in this same place, a tough fight was fought between the Portuguese and Castilians. The enemy would be defeated and in memory of this victory, a local fountain was called the “Fountain of the Thousand Souls”, so many Spaniards fell there.
The Church of S. Brás, Patron Saint of Samões, is Baroque, with an altar from the 16th century inside. XVIII and a beautiful chair from the century. XVII.
