Religious Heritage
“This famous Temple” that “seems suspended from the clouds”, expressions of Pinho Leal, represents the largest and one of the most important Sanctuaries of Trás-os-Montes. Built in the 19th century on top of a hill that dominates the surrounding landscape, it represents one of the highest points in the municipality, at around 760 meters in altitude, being a 360◦ viewpoint much sought after by tourists who are dazzled by the panoramic view that from there they enjoy. This place, proclaimed by the then Bishop of Bragança-Miranda, D. José Cordeiro, as a Diocesan Sanctuary, “is of extraordinary beauty, of a contemplation and panoramic view of nature that is unique”.
