Religious Heritage

The Mariano de Cerejais Sanctuary was started in 1961 and continues to grow, as the Capela da Santíssima Trindade is from 2018. It currently consists of a main church, and the nuclei of Calvário and Loca. Its founder was Canon Manuel Joaquim Ochôa, who wanted to make Fátima do Nordeste Transmontano his own. The Sanctuary is an important driver of local development and hosts works by numerous plastic artists, national and foreign. It also has a nursing home and accommodation for pilgrims and visitors. The highlight of the pilgrimage is the feast in honor of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, which takes place on the last Sunday of May.
